Established in scenic Crescent City, Florida, in 2023, Ultimate Tarot Co. initially aimed to provide the finest free Tarot reading experience for web and mobile users. Having accomplished this mission, we now devote ourselves to enhancing our unparalleled Tarot readings each day in every conceivable manner. Embracing change, growth, and self-improvement, we continually strive to surpass our own achievements. Join us on this exhilarating journey as we redefine the Tarot experience.
All Tarot sites work in basically the same way. After choosing the cards, their interpretations are retrieved from a database. At a minimum, there are interpretations for all combinations of 78 cards, two orientations (upright and reversed), and each of 10 positions in the Celtic Cross spread, for a total of 78 x 2 x 10 = 1,560 interpretations. There are seldom more because this is already an immense amount of work for a writer, and writers who also happen to be Tarot experts are pretty rare.
The short version of why Ultimate Tarot is so much better than the competition is that we don't have just 1,560 interpretations. Because we also have 12 themes, we have a staggering 1,560 x 12 = 20,280 interpretations, some four million words in all. A writer producing fifty interpretations per week would take about eight years to write that much.
Lacking the time to write twenty thousand interpretations or the venture capital to hire an army of expert Tarot writers to do it, we turned to artificial intelligence to fill the gap. Somewhat to our surprise, we found that OpenAI's GPT language model already has a good basic knowledge of Tarot interpretations. It required significant effort to write detailed prompts to guide the AI and code to clean up the results, but once that was done, GPT wrote the first version of the interpretations in just five days.
Now, if you've seen examples of ChatGPT going off the rails, you might have doubts about the quality of the results. At the outset, so did we, but we were surprised and delighted to find that, with a little supervision, GPT was up to the task. The first several attempts were a long way from perfect, but after months of iterations and refinements, our interpretations are as good or better than you'll find in any published Tarot book.
What's more, we are still refining and improving the interpretations, as well as adding new themes and spread positions on a regular basis. As new advances in the underlying AI are released -- we started with GPT 3.5 and are currently transitioning to GPT 4.0 -- they are used to improve our readings further. We are also closely watching several AI models other than GPT, and we are confident that it will not be long before we have our own AI language model in house, completely dedicated to Tarot interpretations.
